Notebook Shipments Increased 10% In November

Notebook brands have recently adjusted their strategies in order to limit the impact tablets and smartphones have had on sales.

It seems that the strategy is going to work out for the holiday season. While overall notebook numbers are expected to see a small decline, in November it actually increased by 10%.

The two main reasons are strong HP enterprise sales and high demand in the low-cost consumer segment.

HP ordered 4 million units from ODMs, which is a 60% increase from the previous month.

All seven major vendors being Apple, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Asus, Dell and Acer are expected to make further adjustment when it comes to their product offering which should shake things up in this space.

Samsung Stops Notebook Sales in Europe – Acer and HP Set to Benefit

Samsung surprisingly announced that it will stop selling notebooks and Chromebooks in Europe. Especially the Chromebook market is extremely price driven resulting in low margin but the market wasn’t expecting Samsung to take this drastic step.

According to Gartner Research, Chromebook sales will reach 5.2 million units in 2014 and now competitors such as Acer and HP who are amongst the most aggressive in terms of price and drive adoption of Chromebooks are set to benefit from Samsung pulling out of Europe.

Samsung did not give a detailed explanation as to why they are pulling out of the European market, in the end it might benefit competitors but not consumers.

Acer looking to reach 10 Million Cloud Users by 2015

Acer’s Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) service is an offering for both the consumers and the B2B market. The company is focused on expanding the B2B part as it is less competitive in terms of price. The expansion is mainly focused on sectors such as healthcare, telecommunication, automobile and smart family. The service is compatible with all major platforms and Acer has aggressive growth targets: currently BYOC has 3 millions users, by the end of this year the goal is to reach 5 million and double to 10 million in 2015. Asus launches keyboard, mouse and headset to capitalize on strong Gaming Customer Base
