According to sources which spoke to Financial Times, Facebook has been working on a new website called “Facebook at Work” which is going to compete directly with LinkedIn.
The internal testing has been going on for quite some time and the social media giant is going to roll out a beta to companies as well to receive initial feedback.
The goal is for people to be able to keep their private profile separate. The professional network will allow users to connect with your professional network, chat and share documents.
LinkedIn is currently the world’s largest professional social network with over 330 million users. About a third of these users are from the US so there is still plenty of growth potential globally.
Facebook has 1.35 billion active users, if the company is able to convince people to manage yet another social media account and deliver features which LinkedIn does currently not provide, they might be able to create yet another revenue stream and tie people into their eco system.
