In February Flappy bird was taken offline by the maker himself because he apparently couldn’t deal with the amount of interest he was getting and the amount of money the game was generating, reported to be around $50,000 from in-game advertising. He announced it on Twitter, here is what he said:
“I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.”
“It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.”
The game was number 1 at the time, both on Google Play and the Appstore. After the internet went nuts, devices that had the game installed sold for several thousand dollars and people cloning the game made a lot of money after as well.
Well now Flappy Bird is back and it looks like Amazon has struck a deal with Dong Nguyen because it can only compatible with Amazon Fire TV. Here is what they say about the game:
Flappy Birds now are on Amazon Fire TV with incredible new features: Person vs Person mode, more obstacles, more fun and still very hard. Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends.
It will be interesting to see if Flappy Birds Family will be a success. So far only 15 people have reviewed it on Amazon, most of them complaining they can’t play it on their tablet or smartphone. With the limited user base of Fire TV, it not being available on Android or iOS devices we doubt it will take off.
