The iStick kickstarter project has just ended on Kickstarter and it managed to raise over $1 million.
So what is the iStick? It is a USB drive with an Apple Lightning made for iPhone & iPad. It is Apple MFi certified, allows you to easily, quickly and safely move data between computers, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches without the need for Internet, wireless networks or the Cloud.
•Connectors: Standard USB 2.0 and Apple MFi-Certified Lightning Connector
•iStick-to-USB Speed: 12MB/s (Read), 7.5MB/s (Write)
•iStick-to-iDevice Speed: 2.5MB/s (Read), 1.9MB/s (Write)
•Construction: ABS Plastic and/or Aluminum
•Dimensions: 51.6 x 28.6 x 9.1mm
Since the project reached the stretch goal of $1 million it will now also have AirPlay support.
You will also be able to encrypt all your data and synchronize it with cloud services such as Dropbox, or Google Drive.
The only issue we have with the device is the fact that it is only USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0.
The production started right after the Kickstarter campaign ended and final availability will be at the end of August. The prices range from $64 – $299 for capacities between 8 and 128GB.
